2006 Ontario Junior Tour Championships

Annual Ontario Junior Tour Championships took place August 28 & 29, 2006. Junior tours from across the provice will sent their top 4 male and top 2 female golfers to square off in some friendly competition. These 11 tours meet each year bringing their top players from the season to see who is the top junior tour in the province. This is a two day, 54 hole event for the Ontario Junior Tour Team Championship (formerly the Bill Millar Tournament).

The 2006 Ontario Junior Tour Team Championship (for the Bill Millar Trophy) was hosted by the Burger King Tour on August 28 and 29 at the Pointe West Golf Club in Amherstburg, Ontario.

This championship brings together all the junior tours from across the province in a two-day, 54 hole event to determine Ontario’s top junior tour team.  This year’s event attracted ten tours from across the province which saw ten boys teams and 12 girls teams compete.

The Wilson Tour team was represented by our top four boys from the 2006 season: Greg Gabel, David Crawford, Davey Evans, and Brett Mitchell. The two top girls of Paula DiFrancesco and Alexandra Hughes made up the girls team.

The first day’s events began with an alternate shot format with the boys and girls two-person teams competing.  The afternoon round was a two-person best ball format. The third round on the second day of competition was individual stroke play. Once score from alternate shot, two scores from best ball and 3 of 4 scores from the individual medal play were used to determine the team total for the boys division. For the girls division, both scores from the individual medal play were used. For those tours with more the one girls team in the competition, the two best individual and team scores were used to determine the winning team.

Our Tour players put in a tremendous individual effort, played as a team with a deal of camaraderie and represented our Tour proudly. The host club was a beautiful golf course with a challenging layout and lovely clubhouse. The playing conditions were wet and quite difficult as it rained on and off over the 2 days and all night after the first round of play. The Niagara Tour came out on top in the boys division and our boys came in 7th place. The girls division was won by the CPGA tour from Ottawa and our girls tied for 4th. There were no individual prizes this year. We are very happy to report that Brett Mitchell had a great individual effort and shot an impressive 74 (lowest score by a Wilson player) and tied for 5th place overall. Individually Paula had the lowest score from the Wilson girls at 79. Two players representing the Niagara and Pepsi Tours tied at 71 for the lowest individual boys score and the lowest individual score by a girl was 74 by a player from the CPGA tour.

Thank you to Ponte West Golf Club and the Burger King for their wonderful hospitality!
